You CAN Beat Emotional Eating

What if I told you there was a way to stop emotional eating? Get past it. Be free of it.

I promise it’s true. I totally get that when you’re an emotional eater, it can seem like a lifelong sentence.

But if you can get to the bottom of WHY you do it, you can take control.

Emotional eating isn’t because you’re weak or flawed or a disaster around food. It could be because...

  • Food is everywhere

  • Food advertising is everywhere

  • You eat when you’re bored, procrastinating, or want to relax

  • You reach for food when your emotions are high (or low)

  • Emotional eating has become a habit

  • Other people are eating around you

  • Emotional eating is hardly EVER about the food. It’s about learned, habitual responses to a trigger.

Here’s what to do:

  • Be mindful and start noticing when you emotional eat

  • Why? What’s happened? How are you feeling? Where are you, what’s in your environment?

  • STOP and pause… make a note of everything.

  • Take a breath.

  • Move away from the thing that’s triggering you, and do something else (even if just for a minute).

  • Break the trigger/response cycle and get AWARE of what’s happening

  • If you’re truly hungry, eat more at your main meals. Don’t let hunger put you in a dodgy position if you are prone to binge eating.

  • Once you’ve worked out HOW and WHY it happens, you can change your habits.

  • Don’t walk past that massive billboard of tempting burgers

  • Don’t walk down the crisps or biscuits aisle in the shop

  • Leave your money at home if you’re going out for a walk
